Zirconia ceramics with high flexural strength

Zirconia ceramics (ZrO ₂) are known as “ceramic steels” due to their bending strength of over 1600MPa. It not only inherits the high temperature and corrosion resistance characteristics of ceramics, but also breaks through the bottleneck of traditional ceramics’ “brittleness” through phase transformation toughening mechanism. In modern industrial high load and high wear environments, it is an ideal structural material to replace metals and traditional ceramics.

Product FAQ: Addressing Your Core Pain Points
Q: My equipment components always break during high-speed operation. Metal parts are not wear-resistant, and ordinary ceramic parts are too brittle. What should I do?
Answer: Our zirconia ceramics have extremely high bending strength and fracture toughness. It can withstand high load impacts like metal, with extremely high surface hardness and wear resistance, completely solving the dual problems of fracture and wear.
Q: In a chemical corrosion environment, parts rust and corrode quickly, affecting equipment life. Is there a suitable material?
Answer: Zirconia ceramics have extremely strong chemical inertness, are resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, and have a thermal expansion coefficient close to that of steel. They can maintain a good fit with metal components during drastic temperature changes and will not fail due to thermal stress.
Q: I need non-standard parts and have searched for many companies, but they are unwilling to do small batch customization. Can you provide them?
Answer: Absolutely possible. We provide “customized drawing” services. Whether it’s complex geometric shapes (such as zirconia molds, fiber optic pins), strict dimensional accuracy (tolerance up to ± 0.005mm), or even small batch sampling, we can meet your needs through precision molding and processing technology.

Product core advantage: not just ‘hard’

  1. Ultra high bending strength and fracture toughness
The bending strength of zirconia ceramics (mainly Y-TZP) is usually between 800-1600MPa, and some hot isostatic pressed products may even be higher. Its fracture toughness (8-11 MPa · m ^ 1/2) is much higher than that of alumina ceramics. This is due to its unique stress-induced phase transformation toughening mechanism: when cracks propagate, tetragonal zirconia transforms into monoclinic phase, absorbing energy and preventing crack propagation.
  2. Ultimate wear resistance and corrosion resistance
High hardness (Vickers hardness of over 12.7GPa), with wear resistance more than twice that of alumina ceramics. Meanwhile, it exhibits extremely high inertness in most acid, alkali, and salt solutions, making it suitable for highly corrosive environments such as chemical and marine industries.
  3. Metallic expansion coefficient
The coefficient of thermal expansion (about 10.2 × 10 ^ -6/℃) is similar to that of steel, making it easy to match and package with metal components, and widely used in electronic devices, sealing rings, and other fields.
  4. Rich customization of specifications and sizes
We offer full process customization from simple ceramic rings and ceramic plates to complex shaped parts such as ball valves, sealing seats, and threaded shafts.
-Size range: Micro shafts with an outer diameter ranging from 0.5mm to large structural components can be machined.
-Precision control: Through precision grinding and polishing, the dimensional tolerance can be strictly controlled within ± 0.005mm, and the smoothness can reach mirror finish.

Application case: Solving real-world problems
Case 1: A well-known lithium battery equipment manufacturer – the life revolution of grinding nozzles
-Pain point of demand: The sand mill produced by this manufacturer is used for grinding lithium battery slurry. The originally used alumina ceramic nozzle suffered severe wear and tear under high-speed slurry erosion, requiring an average shutdown for replacement every 2 weeks, resulting in low production efficiency, and frequent replacement increased labor costs and safety hazards.
-Solution: We have customized zirconia ceramic nozzles with high bending strength for it. By utilizing the high toughness and wear resistance of zirconia, the flow channel structure was redesigned and the internal structure was ensured to be dense and uniform through isostatic pressing.
-Final effect: After replacement, the continuous service life of the nozzle is extended to more than 6 months, which is 12 times the service life of the original alumina ceramic. The equipment downtime has been significantly reduced, saving maintenance costs of over 200000 yuan per year for a single production line.
Case 2: Precision Machinery Manufacturing – Non magnetic and Wear resistant Ceramic Fixtures
-Pain point of demand: An electronic component factory needs a fixture that cannot have magnetic interference and must be extremely wear-resistant when processing precision magnetic cores. Traditional metal fixtures can magnetize and scratch products, while hard alloy fixtures are too heavy and prone to generating metal dust.
-Solution: We use high-purity zirconia ceramics and form fixtures through CNC precision machining. By utilizing the non-magnetic, high hardness, and insulating properties of zirconia, it can perfectly replace metal fixtures.
-Final effect: The surface of the fixture is smooth and does not produce micro powder. The product yield has increased from 85% to 98%, and the fixture itself has almost no wear, achieving permanent use.
