It replaces a damaged or worn connection point so your hose seats securely and the system holds full suction where you need it. Inlets are the hardest working small parts of a central vacuum. Each hose connection works the valve mechanism, and after enough cycles the seal degrades, which can mean suction loss at that inlet or
