At its best, the grape Montepulciano can produce wines that are dry, rich, powerful, and dark in color. However, often the quality is a little low and it can be uninteresting. This wine can be pretty similar to Chianti in style. This is not surprising given that it can have up to 15% Sangiovese in it. Blending with Sangiovese adds body and complexity with flavor ranging
